Dr Ali KhavandiConsultant Cardiologist

General Cardiology

A modern and up-to-date approach, built on broad expertise.

Most people do not come to a cardiology clinic with a diagnosis. They come with a symptom, a concern, an abnormal test result, or a question about their future heart health.

The first step is not simply ordering tests. It is understanding what is really happening, identifying the right diagnostic pathway, and ensuring that every investigation has a clear purpose.

General cardiology is the foundation of this process. It brings together symptoms, risk factors, test results and the wider clinical picture, so that patients receive the right diagnosis, the right investigations and the right treatment plan from the outset.

As an editor of the UK and European Core Cardiology Textbooks, Dr Khavandi remains closely aligned with contemporary evidence and clinical guidelines. This broad foundation supports a modern, efficient and evidence-based approach to assessing the full spectrum of cardiovascular symptoms and conditions.

A Joined-Up Approach

A joined-up approach to modern cardiology.

Modern cardiology has become increasingly specialised. This has transformed the treatment of complex cardiovascular disease, allowing consultants to develop highly specialised expertise in individual areas of practice.

While this brings significant advantages once a diagnosis has been established, patients early in their journey do not always fit neatly into a single subspecialty. Symptoms such as chest discomfort, breathlessness, palpitations, blackouts and abnormal test results frequently overlap. In a highly specialised system, this can sometimes result in patients moving between different clinicians before the complete picture becomes clear.

Dr Khavandi’s training spans both coronary artery disease, including coronary angioplasty and stenting, and heart rhythm disorders, including complex arrhythmia management and cardiac pacing. Combined with a strong foundation in general cardiology, this allows many patients to benefit from a more joined-up diagnostic approach from the outset.

Rather than viewing symptoms through the lens of a single subspecialty, Dr Khavandi is able to assess how different cardiovascular conditions relate to one another, helping patients reach the right diagnosis efficiently while reducing unnecessary fragmentation of care wherever possible.

Where further treatment is required, this breadth of expertise also supports continuity of care. Patients can often progress from assessment and diagnosis through to treatment planning and, where appropriate, specialist intervention under the care of the same consultant.

The result is a modern, efficient and personalised approach to cardiology — broad enough to understand the whole cardiovascular picture, focused enough to identify the right next step, and joined-up enough to support patients throughout their journey.

Whatever brings you to see Dr Khavandi, the goal is the same: the right diagnosis, the right treatment, the right outcome.
