Invited again to lead the surgical skills simulator training at the British Cardiovascular Society a

It was a pleasure to be invited again as surgical skills simulator lead for BCS. These sessions are intended as a taster for the full programme which we founded 6 years ago in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons London - Essential Surgical Skills for Cardiologists. The next course is on the 4th November 2016 and can be booked now - https://www.rcseng.ac.uk/courses/course-search/essential-surgical-skills-for-cardiologists.

Encouragingly the sessions remain very popular and every slot from Monday - Wednesday was overbooked with enthusiastic Cardiologists at every level of training including experienced Consultants. In the hour we generally cover basic knot tying, instrument handling, buried dermal sutures and use this as an opportunity to emphasise our most important messages ("NO SILK!").

We had an excellent show of faculty and good representation across our home Cardiology pacing network of Bath (Royal United Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) and Swindon (Great Western Hospital). Most importantly it is becoming clear that the courses and all associated initiatives are making a change in the UK community with increased awareness amongst the next generation of implanting Cardiologists.

Looking forward to running further sessions at Heart Rhythm Congress in October and British Cardiovascular Society again next year.
